Between star athletes, celebrities, business tycoons, the ultra rich and even very successful acquaintances, it might be tempting to feel less than spectacular about who you are. But don’t kid yourself, these are people who put their pants on one leg at a time no different than you. They just happen to be at the peak of a very large pyramid in a particular specialty.
Maybe they are really that good or maybe they just got lucky: whatever, it really doesn’t matter. Good for them.
And remember, generally all you get to see is the gloss on the outside. Although there’s no doubt many of these people are highly skilled and very gifted, they experience many of the same issues in life the rest of us do; sometimes more acutely because of their position and the related pressures. We’ve seen and heard about all the sordid details many times.
Extrinsic success does not necessarily lead to happiness and peace of mind. We are all aware of this at some level, but perhaps need to be explicitly reminded once in a while. There are more important things in life.
My advice to you is to enjoy these people if they are entertainers and perhaps learn from them if their skill sets are appropriate, but to otherwise forget about them.
And to focus simply on you.
You are who matters in your life. And if you want more from that life it’s going to take a laser like focus on the main protagonist—which is of course, you. Forget about everyone else.
Develop who you are. Define your principles. Improve your skills. Harden your mindset. Become smarter. Manage your money. Craft your lifestyle.
Become the Best Version of You.
Develop a Force of Character. Become a special human being. Inspire others. And learn to enjoy yourself along the way.
Make this your Life’s Goal and everyone will benefit—you, your loved ones and society as well.
Yes, Become the Best Version of You.
This is a good idea.
The first rule of Authenticity is to stop pretending to be something or someone you’re not. Running around putting on a façade is a waste of time and a waste of the gifts you’ve been given.
Your true nature, your true genius is never going to be revealed trying to be something you’re not. Living a lie is no way to live. Pretending is for children. Living to please other people or acting to fulfill someone else’s image of you is a false existence.
But we see this every day don’t we? People living fake, superficial lives. People putting on an eminent front. We know it when we see it. And it always seems so pathetic to see someone working so hard at being something they are not; at being insincere, at being fake.
Being insincere will never lead to reliable success, fulfillment or admiration. No one appreciates this in another person. And yet so many out there make it their primary manner when they walk out the door in the morning.
All because of a lack of courage—and a lack of personal faith.
So have a look in the mirror then. Reflect on your own life and your own actions.
In no way will you manifest your tremendous Divine Potential without being Authentic. Deep in your heart you know this. You’re cheating your true nature.
Stop trying to fool yourself by fooling others. It’s not going to work and you will never truly be happy.
Acquire the courage to be yourself. Have the courage to be Authentic. Give yourself some credit for who you truly are. Have some faith in the gifts you’ve been given. Start from scratch if you have to and work your way up.
There is nothing as impressive as someone who bleeds Authenticity; as someone who is eminently comfortable in their own skin.
Most will admire and respect true Authenticity in another, even if they don’t really like them. And better to be respected and admired than liked. But the hard truth is that if you’re not Authentic the chances are you won’t be much respected or liked.
But then this is not really our concern here; to be admired or liked by others. You want to be admired and liked by yourself first. You want to enjoy your own company. And being Authentic is the only way.
Being true to yourself and then putting in the gut busting work to improve will allow you to manifest your true potential. This is the path to Force of Character; the path to Personal Greatness.
Be your own man. You owe it to yourself to at least start there.
Start with being Authentic.
And then work like hell to Become the Best Version of You.
There is no other way.
It’s an Obligation
You’ve probably heard me say it many times before. You live in the greatest time in human history. The world is literally at your fingertips. If you’re reading this, my point is made. You have access to the leverage of information, ideas and inspiration like never before.
There you are sitting on your couch using an electronic device to consume information and communicate with people from all over the world. This is nothing short of a miracle.
The world is at your feet. Over the long term there is simply no excuse not to excel.
Get out of your own way and stop making excuses. Take full responsibility for your life. This is the path to dignity as a man, regardless of your past.
If you’re currently in a tough situation, then you’ll just have to make it a comeback story. Everyone can respect a man who pulls his life back together. In some respects it adds more weight to his accomplishments. A weathered man is a man of substance. He inherently carries more influence and credibility.
Think of all your ancestors that have toiled throughout the past so that you can live today; with no where near the opportunity and comforts readily available to you now. Think of their courage in the face of difficulty, illness, tyranny and war.
And think as well of all the advancements in technology and civilization that you now benefit from: freedom, health, education, mobility, nutrition, communication, travel and entertainment. You have access to more choice and opportunity than royalty just a few decades ago.
All of this; all of this opportunity, sacrifice, technology and freedom makes it an Obligation for you to pursue your very best. To just sit back and waste away is ungrateful. It is immoral.
Besides, to always seek the easy path and to live for the pursuit of pleasure will only cause you grief in the end. There is something about the human spirit that requires consistent challenge to remain healthy and fully express itself.
And for much of the past in history, survival itself presented this challenge.
But today, most of us have the pure luxury to simply pursue Excellence in our lives.
Think of it this way. You’re incredibly lucky to be alive right now. No man that has come and gone has had it any better.
Be grateful for this.
And make it a Sacred Obligation.
To Become the Best Version of You.
So you’re sitting on all this potential, you know who you are and you realize you’ve got an obligation to develop your gifts. Great. But now it’s time to get to work.
It’s time to get to work and Push Yourself.
Even if you’re brilliant and highly skilled, there is still no substitute for gut busting effort.
When you’re at work, when you’re at home, evenings and weekends, it will serve you well to bust your ass every day. Take a day off for worship and rest, but for the other six days it needs to be full on effort.
Raise the level of your game and seriousness and quit wasting time. Get up an hour earlier and quit watching television. Make your personal time an investment. Take in a movie or a game now and then, but spend the remainder of your time outside of work on pure self-improvement.
Or if it’s right for your situation, work a side hustle, start a part-time business or become a content producer online like yours truly.
If you spend your time outside of work on self-development it’s only going to add up. Slowly over time you’re going to add some layers, some skills and, most importantly, some character. And as you thrash about, eventually some opportunities and possibilities will begin to pop up.
So think of it. You put in relentless gut busting effort and you go to bed tired every night. You get smarter, wiser, stronger and wealthier. Unforeseen Possibilities begin to emerge and you begin to feel unstoppable.
But you’ve missed all those sitcoms and great games of other grown men living out their dreams.
Bring the damn hammer down on yourself. So what if you’re exhausted at night. Eat right and get your sleep. You’ll recover and be just fine.
And if you keep it up, your momentum will eventually become self-sustaining. Beyond just pure physical energy, you’ll develop a source of metaphysical energy. It will become easier and easier to put yourself into an active state and maintain it all day long until it’s ok to be tired.
Acquire the courage, motivation and backbone to Push Yourself Hard.
It’s something you’ll never regret.
No Better Way to Live
Develop your gifts.
Push yourself hard.
This is a man’s life. This is a man’s destiny.
Live your life, not someone else’s. Be true to yourself. This is the path to real success and fulfillment.
You have a responsibility, an obligation to do this. Taking the easy path and wasting your life on pleasure and the superficial is wrong. Deep down you know this to be true.
It is a virtue to develop the gifts you’ve been given. It’s simply the right thing to do. This is God’s work.
And anything worth doing, is worth doing with maximum effort and seriousness.
Thrill yourself with your sheer will and perseverance.
Become the Best Version of You.
There is no better way.
All the best,
