You don’t need to be rich, you don’t need to be famous and you don’t need to be a professional athlete. Explicitly define how you would like to live your life and then pursue it with a vengeance. If you do so and remain faithful to your Mission, then by definition you are living life on your own terms.
No man can take that away from you. And no man will ever have one over on you, despite what he might imagine in the arrogance of his ways.
You will be your own man—and you will know it.
This is living life in the High Country, regardless of your level of worldly success.
Do not just float through life. Have an overriding Purpose that will drive you to succeed in your quest to live as all men should. Make this Purpose your Life’s Mission.
If you do not have a primary Mission, then find one. It will change your life.
Make a hard stop if you have to and cultivate whatever you need to from within to purposely design your life. Start as simple as you can. There will always be time to adjust and craft you go. The key is to dig deep and find something right now that you can sink your teeth into.
Decide what is important to you; not to your woman, not to your parents or not to anyone else. Commit to become the very best version of you. Develop your inherent potential to the fullest. Brush your ego and social pressures aside, be honest with yourself and reflect on your true nature and ambitions. Live life your way. Give yourself the best chance at personal greatness through the authentic development of who you want to become.
This is living with personal power.
This is living life on your own terms.
Have the courage to write it down. Choose a Life Purpose and then specifically create a list of what it is you will achieve along the way. We will call this list your Life Vision. Think 6 months out, 5 and 10 years out and all the way to your last day. You can always make changes as you grow over time.
Think about it for a moment. You know who you are. You know what you are capable of. And if you are like most men then you are keenly aware you are underachieving. Life has a way of distracting most of us from becoming our very best and will veer us off course. But if you do make that hard stop, reflect deeply and then decide to go for it, there is no doubt you will steer right back on track.
And then a couple of years out when you are twice the man you are today, chances are it will be plainly obvious that you have grossly underestimated the gifts you were given; especially if you commit to No More Zero Days and never quit.
When this happens and you tear up your old Life Vision for a new enhanced version you will know in your soul you are now living life on your own terms. This is powerful. And living with power is good. After all, what more could a man ask for? You will have direction like never before, be at ease with yourself and enjoy of peace of mind.
But let us now get down to some hard facts. We live in a world that requires currency to survive. And if you do not develop a measure of control over your financials, it will be much more difficult to live the life you desire.
You do not need to be rich and you do not need to be free of the need to work. But you do need to have at least a plan for some level of financial independence. Whether that is $5000 in the bank, a year’s expenses in the bank, owning your own business or having a marketable set of skills always in need; you must make your financials a priority.
In today’s world it is very difficult to be your own man if you are a slave to debt and your employer.
If you are not getting wealthier every month it is time to make another hard stop. You will need to find a way to earn more income and spend less. There are no two ways about it.
Develop the drive and the capacity to earn more. Hire yourself out after hours, get that promotion or do whatever else you have to do to cash flow every month. Give up the stupid television and take financial control of your life.
Next, create a deliberate path to cut your monthly expenses and fixed overhead. Most of us here in the West live right at the edge or even beyond our means. Look for areas to reduce your spending, whether it be discretionary expenses or by downsizing your lifestyle. Better to live a more modest life as your own man then a high status life as a slave to your employer.
So be practical here in addition to the high minded pursuit of your very best. Become a master of your money regardless of your income level. It will be necessary to dictate the terms of your life.
Be ready as well for the inevitable challenges and difficulties to come. Just because you have taken full control over the direction of your life does not mean you will be exempt from problems. A man carving his own path does not always have it his way. No man does and no man will. It’s just the way it is in this broken world of ours.
However, if you are living day to day with a spirit of independence there will be much more armor to your character and spine. You will have developed yourself far beyond the average man; regardless of your social status or economic standing. Walking your own path will have hardened you for the ups and downs that will forever occur. What would stop most men will be handled by you one way or another.
There is no doubt about it. Like the rest of your life it will simply be a matter of principle.
So prepare yourself for a great ride because a man with the courage of his convictions who is living his life with Purpose is a sight to behold. He is durable, resilient and tough. He lives with high energy and verve. He is self-confident and magnetic. Become that man by living each day according to what is important to you.
Never mind what society says. Ignore the mass media. Discard the superficial. Save some money. Focus inward.
Develop the courage and make the decision to live authentically.
Live life on your own terms.
All the best,
