Not everything is worth fighting for. There are some battles or challenges that are just not worth it. Sometimes it’s best just to let things go and move on to something else. Acquiescence does have its place in a man’s life.
But then some day something will come along that will change everything. It may be something positive or it may be something negative. Whatever it is, it will light you up. It will light a fire under you like nothing ever has.
And as a man you will know it is time. It is time to draw the red line and dig in for the long haul. This is it. It is one of those trials that will become a defining point. All of a sudden life will become very serious. You will awaken from your slumber and rise up to pursue your destiny.
Once the light goes on and you make your decision you will come out of the gate with vigor. There will be determination and sheer will driving you forward. There will be no stopping. You will have confidence, energy and verve.
Yes indeed, you will bravely press forward undeterred; undeterred, that is, until you hit the wall hard. At some point you will realize things are going to be much more difficult than you expected. Or, that your particular challenge could go on for a very, very long time.
This is when the real decision is made. This is when you decide whether or not to continue your pursuit purely based on principle and purely based on what is right, regardless of the outcome or consequences.
In a sense your life will be on the line. Everything that defines who you are or who you wish to become will be laid bare. This is a moment for pure honesty.
You will need to commit like you’ve never done before. And you will ask yourself one simple question: “Is it worth it?”
And the answer without reservation will be YES.
Then there is no choice.
No matter what, no matter how long and no matter how hard. No matter how bad the disappointment, pain or anguish—you will never stop and you will never quit.
Outlast Them All
Half the battle in life is just showing up. You don’t even need to be that good. All you need to do is keep coming; day after day, week after week and year after year if need be. Sometimes the answer is simply winning a battle of attrition.
Effort and heart can be the difference in life between victory and defeat, between success and failure. Talent and smarts are important, but they are rarely enough. You’re keenly aware of your abilities. If you’ve got what it takes, then having the heart to keep at it is most often the key to success.
It just seems to be the natural order that a will of iron is needed to achieve things that matter. Nothing worthwhile is easy in this world.
When things are difficult over the long haul, most men will look for a way out. They will look for a way out and they will find it. Bad feelings override principle and men will choose preference over conviction. Even those closest to them will help to justify this decision. When life gets ugly and hard, most people will want to run away.
If you find yourself looking for a way to quit in a worthwhile pursuit, then take a step back. Ask yourself if you were wrong about taking up the challenge in the first place. Or is this just life having its way with you? Are things really different now, or are you really just folding because you are fed up or intimidated by what it is going to take?
If the goal is still possible, what would happen if you kept at it and never quit? Sometimes all that matters is simply doing the right thing and refusing to give up. Some challenges are worth pursuing simply for their own sake. Some things are worth it for reasons beyond this world. What’s right is right, period.
So choose your pursuits with due consideration. Imagine yourself hitting the wall at some point. And then decide before you begin if you are willing to keep at it regardless of the difficulty. Prepare yourself ahead of time for the circumstances that will attempt to trick you, to fool you that your endeavor is not really worth it after all.
And then resolve ahead of time you will never stop and never quit.
You will outlast them all and do it with pure heart.
At some point in your life you will have your head handed to you and your world will be cut to pieces. It’s just the way it is on this planet. We are all vulnerable. Shit happens, even to the best of us, regardless of the best of intentions.
Something will come along that will bust you up. It will knock you off your feet and challenge everything you know. It will be an existential event. A Life Storm. It will be dark, it will be grainy and it will weigh you down hard.
These are the types of circumstances that will break most men. They will break because there will not be any tenable answer or solution to hold on to. There will be no clear way forward. Extreme mental duress, anguish and confusion will rain down and hammer the average man. He won’t be able to function. He won’t be able to cope. And eventually he will look for a way out; anything to get away.
But you are not that man. You read and internalize the content here at BFN because you’ve got a higher purpose in mind. Your goal is to become the very best you can be—a Force of Nature as I call it. This is the best a man can do with his life, for himself, his loved ones and the Creator.
And this is when it will matter the most. This is when your hardened character and Virtue will make all the difference. When it’s all on the line and there seems like no way out, there had better be some steel in that spine and a man’s Virtue in your soul. All you will have is the core of who you are.
Because sometimes in life, doing the right thing is all you’ve got.
Sometimes the only answer is Righteous Defiance—doing the right thing for its own sake, in pure defiance of everything that’s wrong.
You will not stop and you will never quit. You’ve made your choice and even if it is never rewarded you will continue. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks or if you ever succeed. Even if it seems like the Creator Himself doesn’t care, you will not stop.
You have chosen Virtue and Action based purely on principle; on principle as a Force of Nature.
This gentlemen, is Righteous Defiance.
Take It All the Way to the End
And then you can take it one final step further. If necessary you can take it all the way to the end—you can hold firm to your Righteous Defiance until the day they have to bury you six feet under.
Consider yourself lucky if something comes up in your life that will require this kind of commitment, even if it’s a real back breaker. Remember, by definition, Righteous Defiance is a pursuit or decision based on hardcore Virtue. And to commit to take Virtue all the way to your last breath is nothing short of glorious.
Fate is what it is. All a man can do is make the very best of it. And make the best of it you will. You are going to take it all the way to the end.
What more could a man ask of himself? What more could the Creator ask? This is justifying your life at the highest level. Doing what’s right for its own sake, and to literally never quit and never stop regardless of outcome, transcends it all.
Yes, you will transcend whatever went wrong. This is how you will push back with all your might. You will take the high road. You will become twice, then three times the man you were. And when you get to that point and you are walking around in your daily life you will feel the weight of your character.
You will have hardened yourself with Virtue and it will be good. It will be right with the natural order of things and don’t be surprised if circumstances and opportunities begin to present themselves to you as if by guided hand.
If you make that kind of decision you are living in the High Country. This is a man’s ultimate destiny. And despite whatever anguish or difficulty led you to your decision, you will know you are in congruence with the Creator. And there can be nothing more meaningful than that.
Even if your challenge has left some scars and remains a heavy burden there will be a deep sense of peace that will pervade your soul. After all what could be more right than aligning yourself with the immeasurable greatness of the Source for all that is.
Of course, not every challenge or obstacle will require this kind of commitment. But as a man it’s an ideal you should consider and have at the ready. Use every trial, big and small, that you have along the way to exercise your will, perseverance and Virtue.
And then one day, when if and when it’s necessary you’ll know what needs to be done.
You will never stop and you will never quit—in Righteous Defiance all the way to the end.
All the best,
