A Rugged Individualist will adapt as necessary in his life. He is unyielding in his principles, but flexible and proactive when it comes to his plans and circumstances.
As he educates himself and broadens his mind, new ideas and possibilities will be realized.
Perhaps there is a better path or a completely novel pursuit to be had. There is always a better way to get something done. Consistent reading and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge will open up previously unknown or unconsidered avenues for self-improvement.
A man who grabs life by the throat and challenges himself each and every day will constantly evolve and take pride in doing so. He is not like a stagnant pond of water, but the powerful and turbulent current of an oxygenated river.
Motion, energy and a crisp evolving freshness radiate from his core.
This is truly being alive and living life as it should be.
This is Rugged Individualism.
You will have a Life Mission and Life Vision as the motivations for all that you do. They will be written down and you will be consistent in your daily pursuit. These are the things that matter the most. Some will be principles that you live by every day and some will be goals that will take years to achieve.
Considerable thought and your most heartfelt desires make up the content of your Life Mission and Life Vision. They are who you want to be each day and who you want to become. Come hell or high water you will not stop.
As you develop yourself and mature in your thinking, completely new ideas, concepts and goals will naturally occur to you. Do not ever detract from who you want to become, but exist as a Dynamic Man and allow for the necessary evolution to a higher level of achievement and personal development.
See yourself as a Dynamic Man. Be willing to change and adapt to circumstance and new information. Keep the core of who you are intact, but always be willing to evolve and improve.
As you read each night and leverage the output of the world’s experts in print, many new facts, ideas and manners of thought will be realized. Your mind, attitudes and outlook will mature and open up completely new avenues of possibility.
After a time, through repetition and progression many new ideas will become internalized. They will become part of who you are as they are applied to your life.
Take pride in your Dynamism. Apply your maturing mind to your life. For a Rugged Individualist is a smart man who realizes that he must constantly improve and change to remain relevant. Never sell out who you are, but if there is a better way or a completely new direction that makes sense, then take it.
As long as your Life Trajectory is on the upswing you are headed in the right direction. Roll the ball forward each day. Through failure, mistakes and successes keep challenging yourself and moving forward.
Don’t ever expect to be perfect, but always expect to be fluid and in motion. Start each day with the intent to improve.
Be rugged and adaptable, hardy and driven.
A Rugged Individualist will embrace Self-Denial. The typical man will not.
Look around you at the most obvious of indicators. Most men in western society are fat and grossly out of shape. This is a pathetic state of affairs and completely avoidable. Most will not deny themselves their fill at every meal and every urge to snack in between.
Food is plentiful, rich and addictive. Most men have succumbed and will consume to the point of a complete physical distortion of their former selves.
And yet, as I have written many times before, this is the one area of a man’s life where he has 100% control. There is no argument against the fact that every bite of food consumed is a deliberate act. Yet, as the pounds add up and men become a shadow of their former lean and youthful selves, no serious consistent action is taken.
Most grown men will not deny themselves. They will succumb to their need for immediate gratification. If a change in eating habits is attempted, it is not long before old habits reappear and a poor physical comportment is accepted once again.
And there is no question that a lack of disciplined Self-Denial in one area of a man’s life will bleed into others areas as well. Even with the best intentions, a weakness of character as such will lead to the further seduction by many other manner of shallow distraction. The opportunity to profit from a man’s lowly desires has led to many sophisticated and effective means of exploitation. Every vice is readily accessible.
The next thing you know, a few years pass and a man is a shadow of his former self. He is soft, weak, making excuses and pointing fingers for his current state of affairs.
Deny yourself. Get started right now and embrace Self-Denial.
Take pride in saying no. When you get hungry and the lure of old slothful habits rears its ugly head, hold fast in stubborn opposition to your hunger pangs. Embrace the discomfort, relish it. Leverage this temporary discomfort as a reminder of your new ruggedness.
Turn the tables and bleed Self-Denial to where it needs to go in your life. Attach a new discipline to your character simply by saying no to yourself.
If you succumb, disgust will set in and act as a reminder of why you’ve chosen your new path. Don’t expect to be perfect, but redouble your commitment and get going. The Creator does not expect you to be without failure, but does expect righteous intention.
Transform yourself as a Rugged Individualist through the simple concept of Self-Denial.
Doing so will clear a path for everything that is right. No longer will you be your own worst enemy.
As you put time and space between your new Trajectory and old habits, life will become clearer and brighter.
The allure of your Ultimate Self will take hold and each day will be fueled with the fire of a focused and righteous ambition.
One Life to Live
No matter your age there is no time to waste gentlemen. You’ve only got one life to live. My advice is to live boldly and with a burning sense of urgency.
There is no better time to get started than right now. Consider your life as you would your house on fire. Take immediate action and do whatever it takes.
Except in this instance you are going to start the fire. You are going to start the fire that is your life and then pour gasoline on it.
This will be a fueling, cleansing, white hot fire. It will be the fire that heats things up to where they should be as you finally take the gloves off and go after it.
Put the past behind you. Today is 100% independent of yesterday. We live in the best time in history. Despite the persistent intrusion of government in western society, we are still free men. And for a free man there is no limit to what can be accomplished.
A man’s primary barrier is himself. Get out of your own way.
If you have bad habits that need to be fixed then get angry, grow up and get it done. Enough is enough already. Clear a path. Simplify your life and give yourself every advantage by cutting out those habits that are slowing you down.
Replace the negatives in your life with their positive complement. This is what’s called Replacement Theory. The manner in which we have been designed by the Creator makes it easier and more reliable for us to run towards something than run away from something psychologically.
Displace your bad habits with the positive in your mind. This removes the negative from your consciousness. It will allow you to stop obsessing over the old and pull you toward the new.
Next in line is to redesign your life.
Be bold and write down what it is you know you should be doing. Perhaps your plans will change over time, but every man knows what it is he should be pursuing at the moment.
Set your insecurities and self-limitations aside. Write down your Life Mission and Life Vision. Create these documents with courage and optimism. Take this first baby step and put your new life on paper.
As soon as these documents are complete and taped to your refrigerator or bathroom mirror, take action. Get started right then and there. Do something – perhaps the 50 sit-ups (or 20 to start) that you will do each day from here on in. Next set your alarm to 5am and grab or purchase that book that needs to be read and internalized. Start reading every day, without exception.
You are now on your way. To make sure your ambition remains white hot, take this One Life to Live attitude and tie it to an emotional or meaningful mental marker. For me it was a particular birthday and a disastrous series of events.
Sear your current state of mind into your essence and character. Pull something from your past or current life that will do it for you.
Harden yourself as a Rugged Individualist and live life as a race to the finish line.
Go hard, go fast and never look back.
In order to become a Rugged Individualist you will need to test your limits. Failing to do so will eventually lead to a life of decay. Remain alive in the truest sense by always pushing yourself to new levels of achievement. Live as a vibrant and rugged man thrashing about in your daily life.
No matter your age, situation or circumstance make a decision to forever hack away at your outer limits. Always be driving forward in some area of your existence.
Put them all out there for consideration: diet, fitness, education, finances, women, social, attitude, home. Hell man, why not target them all for self-improvement? For this is how a man adds layers to himself. This is how he adds Armor to his character.
Roll the ball forward day after day after day. Be stubborn and consistent. Don’t stop and never quit.
There is no panic here, but there should be a sense of urgency always driving you forward. Leverage the fact that you only have One Life to Live as the fuel for daily progress.
Trust me, as you push yourself and harden your Armor, life will become more enjoyable. As you awake each morning, the coming onslaught of the day’s challenges will be welcomed as a worthy adversary. You will enjoy being you; setting them up and knocking them down.
Will your woman complicate your life sometimes? Yes. Will she do her best to sap your morale on occasion? Of course she will. Will you get blindsided by circumstance or hammered by The Storm and knocked off stride? Absolutely, we all have our turn at bat.
Realize these things as the nature of life. But make a promise to yourself that you will remain true to your Mission and right with the Creator. Handle it all; keep on striving for your best and in the end the glory of a hard fought life will be yours.
Go hardcore once in a while. Fast for 24 hours. Do 500 push-ups in one day. Write for 1 hour first thing in the morning for 28 days. Cut out all alcohol and sugar for a month.
Break new ground as such for your own amusement. There is no need for fanfare or recognition, just the personal satisfaction that comes from living as a Rugged Individualist.
Learn to sleep faster. Tell yourself that all you need to be fully refreshed is a mere 5-6 hours of sleep during the week and a luxurious 6 or 7 on the weekends. Use this extra time to get smarter at night and pull ahead at work.
Yes, eat right and sleep fast. Life is for the living and not for the men curled up and asleep in bed.
Take the Hard Path by testing your limits.
Be bold and ambitious in all your endeavors.
Live life as a rugged man and Become a Force of Nature by your own hand.
All the best,
